Texas Locations

National Group

The National Group competes and trains at the highest level of our sport, with the intention of national-level success and recognition. The group places a strong emphasis on National level competitions including Junior Nationals, International Team Trials, and Olympic Trials. With their training, dedication, and commitment, National Group athletes are leaders for Nitro and they maintain a NITRO first, team-first mentality. This tier of the program is limited in numbers. Athletes in the National Group will be expected to be at all Nitro training sessions and assigned meets.

Equipment: Mesh Bag, Kickboard, TYR Hydroblade fins, TYR Pull Buoy, TYR Paddles, TYR Snorkel, Drag Sox, Parachutes, Water Bottle, and appropriate Dryland Clothes and footwear.

Performance Group

Performance Group athletes are seeking peak performance at Sectional level competition. In the Performance Group, athletes enhance their commitment to Nitro's team goals and mission and continue to develop a team-first mentality. With an intentionally designed training curriculum, these athletes will learn proper training habits, hone stroke mechanics, and push each other in a positive, supportive training environment necessary for next-level success. Performance group athletes are expected to be at all Nitro practices and assigned meets.

Equipment: TYR Mesh Bag, TYR Kickboard, TYR Hydroblade Fins, TYR Pull Buoy, TYR Paddles, TYR Snorkel, DragSox, Parachutes, Water Bottle, and appropriate dryland clothes and footware.

Sectional Development Group

The Sectional Development Group consists of 13 and older swimmers who have the ability, desire and commitment to continue and develop their competitive swimming career with Nitro. Sectional Development offers 6 workouts per week designed to help our athletes to qualify for the Senior Sectional level meet. In addition, many members of this group swim concurrently with their high school swim teams. High school programs usually practice in the morning and swim with their club team in the afternoon/evening. Swimming with this group will work hand in hand to provide the additional training needed for the high school swimmer to be competitive in both the USA Swimming and Texas High School programs.

Equipment: Mesh Bag, Kickboard, Training Fins, Zoomers (short fins), Pull Buoy, Paddles, Snorkel, Water Bottle, Appropriate Dry-land Clothes and Shoes.

Minimum Practice Requirements:

  • High School Swim Team Members - 7 Total workouts per week (High School team workouts and Nitro workouts combined)
  • Non High School Swim Team Members - 6 Total workouts per week

Senior

The Senior Group consists of predominantly 13 and older swimmers who have the ability, desire and commitment to continue and develop their competitive swimming career with Nitro. Challenging workouts designed to help our Senior athletes to qualify for their high school swim team, Jr. STAGS & STAGS. Many members of this group already swim concurrently with their high school swim teams. Swimming with this group will work hand in hand to provide the additional training needed for the high school swimmer to be competitive in both the USA Swimming and Texas High School programs.

Equipment: Mesh Bag, Kickboard, Training Fins, Pull Buoy, Paddles, Snorkel, Water Bottle, Shoes for Pool Use.

Pre-Senior

The Pre-Senior Group consists of predominantly 13 and older swimmers who have the ability, desire and interest to continue and develop their swimming career with Nitro. Challenging and educational workouts designed to help our Pre-Senior athletes to stay fit, possible competition opportunities and a stepping stone to the Senior group. Swimming with this group will work hand in hand to provide the additional training needed for the swimmer to move into the Senior group.

Equipment: Mesh Bag, Kickboard, Training Fins, Pull-Buoy and a Water Bottle.

Practice Sessions/Week: 2 one-hour sessions and (1) 45-minute session.

Our most competitive group for primarily 13-14 yr olds. Exceptions on ages are possible depending on the individual. Coaches invitation for admission to this group.

Equipment: Mesh Bag, Kickboard, Training Fins, Zoomers, Pull Buoy, Paddles, Snorkel, Water Bottle, Two Tennis Balls or Whiffle Balls, Band for Ankles (can be a cut/tied Thera-Band or similar), Appropriate Dry-land Clothes and Shoes, Nose Clips as needed

Prep

Our most competitive group for primarily 11-12 yr olds. Exceptions on ages are possible depending on the individual. Coaches Invitation for admission to this group.

Equipment: Mesh Bag, Training Fins, Kickboard, Paddles, Pull Buoy, Snorkel (Nose clip optional but beneficial to Backstroke), Cap, Goggles, Tennis Shoes for Dry-land (No Shoes, No Dry-land), Yoga Mat and Gym Clothes for Dry-land, Water Bottle (No Water, No Swimming or Dry-land).

Gold

This group maintains an emphasis on stroke technique while incorporating more aerobic endurance, dryland exercises and racing skills. Gold group swimmers must show competency in all of the above skills as well as demonstrate a respectful and positive attitude at practices and swim meets to all team members. We encourage and teach a lifelong love and appreciation of the sport as we introduce this group to more rigorous training, preparing them to compete at the state level (TAGS). Practices are offered up to 6 days a week. Typical Ages: 9-12, some 13 yr olds.

Gold 1 -Equipment: Mesh Bag, Kickboard, Training Fins, Pull Buoy, Strokemaker Paddles, Snorkel, Water Bottle, Backup Cap and Goggles, Nose Clip (optional)

Gold 2 – Equipment: Mesh Bag, Kickboard, Training Fins, Snorkel, Pull Buoy, Water Bottle, Appropriate Dry-land Clothes and Shoes

Advanced Silver

Advanced Silver is the link between the Gold and Silver group for older and/or more experienced and technically skilled 9-12 year olds. Further emphasis is placed on stroke technique, interval training and pacing, and aerobic development. Group goals include consistent practice attendance, meet attendance, and achieving USA Swimming’s “A” times. Practices are 1 hr and 15 minutes, offered up to 5 days/week, with two days of dryland exercise added.

Equipment: Mesh Bag, Kickboard, Training Fins, Pull Buoy, Snorkel, Water Bottle, Appropriate Dry-land Clothes and Shoes. OPTIONAL: Nose Clip, Alignment Kickboard

Silver

This group builds upon the fundamental swimming skills learned in the Bronze Group. More advanced drills and training techniques are introduced progressively to improve overall coordination and efficiency in water. Swimmers are encouraged to attend practice regularly and participate in swim meets. Competitive goals include longer swims and sets, achieving USA Swimming’s ‘B/BB’ times, continuing to master the four competitive strokes, and gaining proficiency in turns, starts, and finishes. One hour practices are offered up to 4 days a week. Expected attendance is 75%. Typical age range: 8-12.

Bronze

This is a competitive group that teaches intervals, challenging workouts, improvement of all four competitive strokes, starts, turns, finishes, and racing strategies. The Bronze group officially puts a swimmer on the “road” heading up the Nitro “super-highway” of competitive swimming. It is a great place for newer competitive swimmers coming from summer league or advanced swim lessons, and are looking to commit to two to three practices a week. We emphasize stroke technique, teamwork, basic training etiquette and behavior.  Meet participation is encouraged –  Meets offered approximately every 4-6 weeks. Typical age range in Bronze: 7-10.

TF1/TF2

Technique/Fitness Group.  This is the perfect group for the “casually competitive” swimmer. Once or Twice a week options, several time slots to accommodate the busiest of families. Practices are 45 minutes, and attention to proper stroke details are emphasized with some endurance training as well, with a little bit of FUN thrown in!  Typical age range: 9-14.

Intro to Nitro

Intro to Nitro is our entry level TEAM group, introducing young athletes to the world of competitive swimming! Through the application of drills/skills/repeating of sound, basic swimming fundamentals and race strategies, our Intro to Nitro kiddos are taught an appreciation of the sport from an early age! Practices last 45 minutes, and options of once and twice a week are offered. Meets are offered approximately every 6 weeks. All four competitive strokes must be performed legally for 25 yards for entry onto our team groups.  Ideal age (but not limited to) is 6-9 yrs of age.  If a swimmer cannot yet demonstrate all four strokes legally, we offer the best learn to swim curriculum available anywhere right in the same building at our Nitro Swim School.

Race Ready

The Race Ready Group is the perfect option for the swimmer who is able to successfully perform side breathing freestyle and backstroke, understands and can “ALMOST” perform legal breastroke and/or legal butterfly,  but needs a little sharpening of those skills. Entrance into this group option is by Coach invite only, after an evaluation has taken place.  This is a transitionary type group and as soon as the swimmer is able to successfully demonstrate all four of the competitive strokes legally and to our standards, they will be invited onto one of our official Nitro Team groups!
