Nitro Swimming Recognized as 2017 Gold Medal Club by USA Swimming

Nitro Swimming Recognized as Gold Medal Club on USA Swimming Club Excellence List

Gold, Silver, Bronze recognition awarded to 200 clubs for performance excellence

                                                                                                                                           

Bee Cave/Cedar Park, TX – For the third consecutive year, and fourth in the last five, Nitro Swimming has been awarded the top honor of a Gold medal ranking in the   USA Swimming Club Excellenceprogram, recognizing the organization’s highest-performing clubs in the development of athletes 18 years and younger.

Nitro Swimming tallied over 31,000 points finishing 9th and earning Gold Medal Club recognition.

“Nitro is honored to once again represent USA Swimming as a Gold Medal club,” said Mike Koleber, Owner and Head Coach of Nitro Swimming. He adds: “Our Coaching staff does a fantastic job day after day to bring out the best from our athletes. Our families and parents are fantastic, and the support staff behind the scenes from everyone within the Nitro organization all share in this achievement.”

In its 15th year, the Club Excellence program identifies clubs that execute strong, well-rounded programs to produce elite 18-and-under athletes. The top 20 clubs earn Gold level ranking and those rated 21-100 are designated as Silver honorees. The next 100 clubs are recognized at the Bronze level.

Nation’s Capital Swim Club was the top team in the rankings for the third year a row with 89,635 points. This year, Lakeside Aquatic Club from the Ft Worth area join Nitro as the only other Gold Medal team in Texas.

“Earning a Gold, Silver or Bronze ranking has become a highly coveted honor for our club teams. The competition to earn a Club Excellence ranking continues to be more and more challenging.” said Pat Hogan, USA Swimming’s Club Development Managing Director. “On behalf of USA Swimming, I want to congratulate each of 200 clubs that have earned a ranking in the 2017 program.”

In addition to recognizing high-performing teams, the program provides grant funding that enable clubs to expand and enhance the services already provided to athletes. A total of $450,000 in grants will be distributed to the 100 Gold- and Silver-level clubs.

Mike Koleber

Head Coach Mike Koleber swam competitively in Michigan from age-group through his college years at Oakland University, where he was team Captain, an 11-time NCAA All-American, and a Senior National qualifier. Mike started teaching swim lessons at the age of 13, helping out his Dad on Saturday mornings, which allowed Mike the opportunity to learn from the best, his Dad. Mike has a true love of coaching and teaching and does a tremendous job of making new kids feel welcome on the Nitro pool deck. His drive to lead Nitro to ultimately become the #1 program in the country is infectious, and the staff works together as one unit with one goal, which is Nitro's Mission Statement: "Visible Improvement. Delivered with Passion and Joy. Every Day." Coach Mike is often a featured speaker at national and regional swimming conferences and former Board President of the American Swim Coaches Association. Coach Mike also shares swim instruction, coaching insights, and technique guidance with a global audience on social media.
