Nitro Swimmers of the Week February 20 – 26, 2017

Intro to Nitro

Cedar Park: Abby Whorton

Abby has worked very hard this season to be the best swimmer she can be. No matter what is going on Abby is always having fun. This past week Intro worked on all four strokes and some dives. Abby did a great job and prepared well for Nitro at the Races this weekend. She really embraced good diving technique and had great streamlines every single time. All in all, great work this week Abby, keep it up!  —Coach Hannah

Bee Cave: Sawyer Lassberg

Sawyer, a natural racer, has been working hard to slow down and focus on details the past several weeks. His underwaters continue to improve week after week; each week he gets a stronger and confident. This past week we really focused on keeping his head lower and still in the water during freestyle and butterfly. Sawyer’s hard work and effort was evident by his personal best times this weekend at our Nitro at the Races swim meet. One of my favorite moments of the meet was when Sawyer stood behind the block shouting and waving, “Hi, Coach Raven!!!” Thank you for bringing so much passion and joy in and out of the pool Sawyer!  —Coach Raven

Bronze

Cedar Park: Kaydence Yeun

Kaydence had a stand out week in the Bronze group. We focused on our flip-turns all week, freestyle and backstroke, and Kaydence had them looking great by the end. Not only was she nailing that tricky stroke count on the backstroke turns, her streamline and underwater kicks coming off the wall were very impressive. Kaydence even stepped up a couple of times and lead her lane through some tough tasks. Way to go Kaydence! —Coach Adam

Bee Cave: Dane Mason

Tall strokes all over the place, Dane has been working with great patience, you see it in the freestyle, backstroke, great under waters on breaststroke, and a kick that drives his butterfly, with the result being a big compliment from coach Mike watching Dane swim in the meet Saturday! This result was a given considering how focused his training has been. Dane is ready to take on some of the longer races, I can’t wait to see his first 200 freestyle. Great Work Young Man! —Coach Chuck

Technique and Fitness

Cedar Park: Christina Jung and Roan Alburo

Awesome job this past week working on our freestyle kicking always emphasizing a fast and great tempo. Christina always has a laugh in the pool that we can hear from all over the pool deck! Great pleasure to coach a swimmer with such a positive attitude.  Roan rocked it at our NITRO at the Races swim meet this past weekend! He is the kind of athlete that is quiet but enthusiastic and knows how to get the job done. Great job you two thanks for being a part of NITRO and we’ll see you at the pool.  —Coach Stephen

Bee Cave: Evan Green

Evan is one of the faster TF swimmers at Bee Cave, and certainly one of the more capable. So it actually shouldn’t have surprised me when he shined this week as we worked on butterfly and IM. Evan is not only a fast swimmer, he’s also very respectful. Sure, he can be quiet at times which makes most people assume respectfulness. However, I notice he’s always giving other people a chance to be first in his lane. It’s not actually a productive thing to do in swim practices; but, I always catch it and thank him for his act of kindness to his lanemates before I correct the situation. Evan definitely has a bright future in front of him – in AND out of the pool.  —Coach Jonny

Silver

Cedar Park: Ethan Ho

Ethan is such a hard worker. I can always count on him to try his best no matter what skill we’re trying to accomplish. This past week we worked on free specifically rotating from the hips, keeping the head still, and high elbows/big arms over the water. As always Ethan worked diligently at his technique and succeeded in lengthening and improving his freestyle stroke. He has much fuller arms when recovering them over the water, his kick is constant, his head is rock steady, and he is feeling the water much better as he rotates through it. Ethan, you’ve come a long way, and it’s in large part due to your work ethic. Your commitment and drive to make yourself better is such an example to your team mates. Keep pushing us all to become better! —Coach Claire

Bee Cave: Logan Schaefer

I’ve had the pleasure of coaching Logan for almost his entire time at Nitro, and it’s been an absolute joy to see his growth and improvement as a swimmer and person. He’s always laser focused at practice and gives me 100% effort day in and day out. I can’t really ask for any more out of Logan. Coach Felix was just commenting to me this past week on Logan’s immense improvement from when he coached him in our summer rec program to now. Definitely a well deserved SOW for Logan! —Coach Peter

Advanced Silver

Bee Cave: Aihika Mitra

Aihika set a personal training goal on kick sets two months ago – and this past week she achieved her goal! Additionally, Aihika’s warm smile and kind heart makes everyone feel welcome in our group. It sure is a pleasure to coach this young lady. Hard work pays off!  —Coach Paige

Gold 1 & 2

Gold 1 CP: Jake Goltzman

Jake earned the award this week for his hard work and dedication. Jake has been pushing through kick sets, getting stronger with each practice. He also made strides this week working on his butterfly timing. Jake is always looking to improve, and can always make the group smile. It has been awesome to see him grow this season. Keep it up Jake! —Coach Adam

Gold 2 CP: Annabelle Chang

Three cheers for Annabelle Chang!  Annabelle is one of the top dogs in the group and we couldn’t ask for a better leader.  Her attendance is outstanding, her effort is consistent, and her progress this season has been HUGE.  I’ve had the pleasure of coaching Annabelle in other groups at Nitro prior to Gold II, so it’s been a pleasure to see how much faster and more skilled she’s become over the years.  Finish this season strong, Annabelle! —Coach Alex

Bee Cave: Timmy Gaun

Timmy, you da man. The excitement you have with your happy dance every day before practice makes my day just so much better. I can’t wait for you to arrive at practice and simply get excited for every set that we do, and find the joy in working hard. I have loved being your coach for most of my time at Nitro, Cedar Park to Bee Cave! You are one special young man, and I can’t wait to watch you race over the next two weekends at STAGS and TAGS! You have exceeded expectations and I am so very proud of you.  —Coach Allison
