Swim Groups

 

Group Descriptions
 
All new swimmers must be evaluated by one of our USA Swimming coaches prior to registering into any group.
 
 
National Group
 
This is the highest level competitive group that Nitro offers. Recommended for swimmers 15 and over who wish to participate in Sectional, National and potentially International competitions with a strong emphasis on USA Junior and Senior Nationals in the pool and qualifying swimmers to be USA Scholastic All-Americans in the classroom. This high intensity/ high reward group trains 9 pool practices a week, 4 dryland practices per week and offers structured strength programs as well. Swimming in college is another main objective of swimmers in the Nitro National Group and assistance with the recruiting process is offered to all group members. There is also a strong emphasis on community service as well as giving back to and being leaders of Nitro. To be a member of this group is a commitment not a convenience and is by coaches invitation only.
Equipment: mesh bag, drag suit, paddles, buoy, kickboard, snorkel, blue parachute, fins ( standard ), sneakers for pool use, water bottle and dryland gear
 

Senior 1
The Senior 1 Group consists of predominantly 13 and older swimmers who have the ability, desire and commitment to continue their competitive swimming career with Nitro. The main goal of a swimmer in this group is to final at the Senior Championship meet, achieve Sectional time standards and be competitive at the Sectional meet.
In addition, many members of this group swim concurrently with their high school swim teams. High school programs usually practice in the morning and swim with their club team in the afternoon/evening. Swimming with this group will work hand in hand to provide the additional training needed for the high school swimmer to be competitive in both the USA Swimming and Texas High School programs.

Senior 2
This group is for swimmers 13 and older wanting a challenging workout environment as they continue their climb up the ranks of Nitro. The main goal of a swimmer in this group is to achieve Senior Championship time standards and be a top 8 finalist at the Senior Championships meet. Swimmers from this group will have the option of continuing their swimming career on to the Senior 1 group depending on their interest and goals in competitive swimming.

TAGS 1
The TAGS 1 offers an advanced program for experienced 13-14 year old competitive swimmers.  This program is tailored for swimmers who have dedicated themselves to the sport of swimming, and are capable of consistently performing difficult training sets in practice, working towards becoming TAGS finalists and Sectionals qualifiers.  Swimmers can expect to be challenged on aerobic and anaerobic levels while embracing cutting edge and creative training techniques and drills, both in and out of the pool all season long.

TAGS 2
 
The TAGS 2 offers an program for 11-12 year old TAGS level competitive swimmers.  This program is tailored for swimmers who have achieved TAGS qualifying times and are working towards becoming TAGS finalists.  Swimmers can expect to be challenged in various ways throughout the season while still focusing on overall technique and stroke improvement.
Equipment: Fins, Paddles, Kick board, Snorkel

 
GOLD
 
Gold Group: This group maintains an emphasis on stroke technique while incorporating more aerobic endurance, dryland exercises and racing skills. Gold group swimmers must show competency in all of the above skills as well as demonstrate a respectful and positive attitude at practices and swim meets to all team members. We encourage and teach a lifelong love and appreciation of the sport as we introduce this group to more rigorous training, preparing them to compete at the state level (TAGS). Practices are offered up to 6 days a week. Required Equipment: Swim Fins, Kickboard, Pull Buoy and Paddles (size .5) Typical Ages: 10-14

 

 
ADVANCED SILVER
 
 Advanced Silver is the link between the Gold and Silver group for older and/or more experienced and technically skilled 9-14 year olds. Further emphasis is placed on stroke technique, interval training and pacing, and aerobic development. Group goals include consistent practice attendance, meet attendance, achievement of STAGs times and USA Swimming’s “A” times. Practices are offered up to 5 days a week. Equipment needed: Competitive Swim Fins, Kickboard and Pull Buoy.

SILVER

This group builds upon the fundamental swimming skills learned in the Bronze Group. More advanced drills and training techniques are introduced progressively to improve overall coordination and efficiency in water. Swimmers are encouraged to attend practice regularly and participate in Nitro-hosted swim meets. Competitive goals include longer swims and sets, achieving STAGs times, continuing to master the four competitive strokes, and gaining proficiency in turns, starts, and finishes. Practices are offered up to 4 days a week. Typical age range: 8-12.

Equipment needed: Competitive Swim Fins, Kickboard and Pull Buoy.

 
TF1/TF2
 
Technique/Fitness Group
This is the perfect group for the “casually competitive” swimmer. Once or Twice a week options, several time slots to accommodate the busiest of families. Practices are one hour, and attention to proper stroke details are emphasized with some endurance training as well. Must be able to demonstrate all 4 competitive strokes legally. Typical age range: 8-15. Equipment needed: Competitive Swim Fins and Kickboard.

 

BRONZE
 
This is a competitive group that teaches intervals, challenging workouts, improvement of all four competitive strokes, starts, turns, finishes, and racing strategies. The Bronze group officially puts a swimmer on the “road” heading up the Nitro “super-highway” of competitive swimming. It is a great place for newer competitive swimmers coming from summer league or advanced swim lessons, and are looking to commit to two to three practices a week. We emphasize stroke technique, teamwork, basic training etiquette and behavior. Must be able to demonstrate all 4 strokes legally.  Typical age range: 8-11. Equipment needed: Competitive Swim Fins and Kickboard 

 

INTRO to NITRO
 
Intro to Nitro practices either once a week or twice a week depending on what option you choose. If a swimmer can not yet demonstrate all four strokes legally, we offer the best learn to swim curriculum available anywhere right in the same building at our Nitro Swim School. Equipment needed for Intro to Nitro: Competitive Swim Fins and Kickboard 

 

HOW TO SIGN UP

Join any time! We hold evaluations every Saturday at 1:00pm. No need to sign-up for a slot, just come by the Nitro Swim Center and talk with the folks at the front desk.
 
-Bring suit, goggles, and a swim cap (if your swimmer has long hair)
-Evaluations usually last 10-15 minutes
- If you are going to register that day, then bring a copy of your birth certificate. USA Swimming requires this for all registered athletes.
 
Once your evaluation is complete you may sign up immediately at the front desk.
