Coach Tim is a Graduate of the University of
Georgia in the Sport Business Program. He was a Senior National
Qualifier, and spent five years as an Assistant to Head Coach Jack
Bauerle at the University of Georgia, one of the country’s
top NCAA programs. Coach Bauerle has been a multiple NCAA coach of
the year as well as Olympic coach.
Tim is a former Head Coach of Swim Atlanta
where his team grew from 70 swimmers in 1995 to over 340 in 2001.
While a head coach for Swim Atlanta, the team won the team title at
Junior Nationals 4 times and the team title at the American Short
Course Championships 3 times. During this time, there were multiple
individual and relay champions as well as numerous Scholastic
All-Americans. In that time, Tim produced 42 Junior National, 20
Senior National, and 8 Olympic Trial Qualifiers, as well as
numerous Top 16 Swimmers, and 4 state records. Tim had over 55 of
his swimmers move on to swim in college (Div. I, II or III). He
coached at numerous camps and clinics including United Swim
Clinics, Jack Bauerle Bulldog Swim Camp, and National Select Camps
at the US Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs. Tim also
worked technical support for the 1995 Pan Pacific Games and the
1996 Atlanta Olympics.
Part of Tim’s philosophy is to help
all his swimmers to achieve their maximum potential. He believes in
an overall, comprehensive approach that includes weights and
dryland, attending to physiological and nutritional needs, as well
as intensive pool training. Tim likes his swimmers to be well
balanced academically, athletically, and socially. Training
swimmers for today as well as their future, both in and out of the
pool is a common theme with Tim. Many of Tim’s summer
training trips are visits to college campuses to help explore
future options and help swimmers to understand what opportunities
await them if they decide to keep swimming after their age group
careers.

Although
Coach Greg wasn’t born in Texas he got here as soon as he
heard of Coach Mike’s plan for the Nitro Swim
Center. Greg moved with his wife, Melissa to Austin in Aug.
2005 and began assisting Coach Mike in growing the foundation that
would become the Nitro swim team. Competitive swimming was
very much a part of life for Greg and his family from about the age
of 7. He is a graduate of UC Davis, where he swam Breaststroke
and IM, helping the team to a 3rd place NCAA finish in
1993. Other highlights include All-American 16 times, and team
captain.
The
coaching bug hit early with his first job in 1989 as a lessons
teacher. Then from 1993-1996 he headed the Sutter Lawn summer
team in the very competitive Sacramento Swim League. The SL
team won 2 Championships and 4 League Records still exist
today from that era. After a brief hiatus from swimming,
Greg went to the Pacific Athletic Club (Redwood City, CA) as the
Head Masters, Summer League, and Age Group Coach from
1998-2001. Greg led PAC to 2 summer League Championships and
the team’s first AAA+
performances.
Greg’s
first USA-S Head Coach position was for the Burlingame Aquatic Club
from 2001-2005. The team grew from 70 to 170 members, produced
numerous LSC Top-10 performances, High School All-Americans,
several collegiate scholarships in water polo and swimming and even
developed a plan to launch a swim school much like
Nitro’s. Concurrently, he was asked to coach USA-S Age
Group Select Camps and Zone All Star Teams in addition to managing
the selection and travel plans for the Zone All-Star coaches and
swimmers. On Oct. 11, 2005 9-year-old Johnny Wilson, BAC
swimmer, became the youngest person to swim the San Francisco Bay
from the legendary Alcatraz island to raise $30K for
charity.
Greg
derives his inspiration from his swimmers. He uses sound,
comprehensive methods to teach and train swimmers, placing an
emphasis on efficiency and consistency in practice. With Nitro
Greg has coached several STAGS Champions, TAGS Champions,
Sectionals Qualifiers, Jr Nationals Qualifiers, USA-S Top-20,
Top-10 and Top-2 ranked swimmers.
Greg
is the lead coach of the Age Group squad, and assists with other
groups such as Gold, Silver, Bronze, Intro. Melissa and Greg
have just had a son named Roman G born on May 27 2009!
